Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Co.

Aetna HH & L Co., also commonly referred to as the Newark Fire Department; is one of the busiest departments in the State of Delaware. We are a combination department that relies on volunteers and full & part-time staff. We respond to over 3,400 fire/rescue calls and 10,500 EMS calls each year. Our district is 42 square miles in New Castle County. We have a mix of everything in our district; urban, suburban, rural, industrial, commercial, educational, and more. We also provide fire and rescue services covering the University of Delaware. We also offer a Live-In program where we provide housing in exchange for staffing fire apparatus.

If you are looking to join and become a firefighter or EMT there is no better place than Aetna. With our call volume, you will gain valuable experience, knowledge, and friendships. We respond to over 50 working alarms, and 33 entrapments each year.
We also need you even if you do not want to become a firefighter or EMT. Many functions and jobs need to be completed just to get the apparatus on the street. Some of these jobs are financial, grant writing, administrative, human resources, and more.
